We drove to Magna Bay, BC on February 10th to see our friend Tucker (and Marika, and Jack, and Emma)! We stopped by Shuswap Pie Company (highly recommend) on the way and picked up a sausage, sage, and apple pie, and a raspberry rhubarb pie.

J There’s nothing better than spending a ton of time with people that you spend a lot of time wishing you could see more! I really appreciate that when you live together, you get past that “catching up” point and get into the “you already know everything happening in my life” time where you can really just hang. It was filled with boardgames, watching shows (Vox Machina), hiking, pie, and building things in the snow.
Honestly it was nice to just really relax. Some of my most relaxing moments were when I was reading “Name of the Wind” with my feet up on the couch and Tucker or Marika would bring me a little unprompted snack or tea.
W Spending time in Magna Bay was simply lovely. It was so good to spend time with friends again –– we even had a bit of a ~coworking space~ going on during our working hours which made it a little easier to feel productive during long work weeks. I did a ton of knitting, and some sewing, and also had some relaxing baths. The second weekend we were there, Tucker and I got inspired and made a huge meal – he made lasagna and I made rosemary-garlic pull-apart bread 😀
The unintentional “boys day” where Jack, Tucker and Jonny made a Quinzhee was definitely a highlight!!

Wei-Wei also had some fun in the snow, but building tiny snow spirits instead.
We also hiked a very slippery icy trail to Onyx Falls and greatly regretted not bringing spikes! Lots of butt sliding ensued. Jonny and Tucker skipped rocks at each other across the waterfall which was very wholesome.

More tiny snow beings. We went for a weekend hike with Tucker & Marika along Adams River. Lots of call-and-response singing of just this part of the “Good, the Bad, and the Ugly” theme.

We walked down to Lake Shuswap a couple of times.
Once we walked down in the dark, and laid down on a beached dock to try to identify some constellations. Wei-Wei learned to tell where the North Star was.
All in all, our two weeks in Magna Bay felt nourishing with friend time, and much too short. We also felt validated in predicting correctly that two weeks would be too short for travelling generally, and also that we probably don’t want to live in a small town / rural place long-term.
Love you Tucker (and Marika, and Jack, and Emma)! Thanks for letting us stay with you, we had a wonderful time! We also posted some more photos here.
